This trail is dangerous & deadly and it will kill you if you are inexperienced, drunk or not paying attention. Just search for FALLING OFF BLACK BEAR PASS video and see how that makes you feel. DO NOT attempt to drive this trail if you are an inexperienced driver. DO NOT attempt to drive this trail if you have any doubt about your experience level. DO NOT attempt to drive this trail if this is your first offroad trail in Colorado. This trail is one-way (descending) from the top of the pass. DO NOT drive up this trail from the bottom at Bridal Veil Falls. If you are questioning how you will perform on tight switchbacks and narrow shelf roads with extreme exposure, then this is not the trail for you. This trail exposes you to tight switchbacks and narrow shelf roads with a 1,000’ drop to the bottom of the mountain. This should not be your first off-roading adventure. You should not drag your overlanding camping trailer on this trail. You should not drive this trail if you are new to off-roading in Colorado and are a beginner or moderate level driver. You should not take your brand new Ford Bronco Badlands Edition, Ford Bronco Sport, Jeep JL Wrangler Rubicon or Jeep JT Gladiator Mohave on this trail for your first ever offroad trail. Yes, your vehicle won’t have any problem with this trail but will you? You need to complete some easier prerequisite trails like Engineer Pass, Ophir Pass, Corkscrew Pass, Imogene Pass, Cinnamon Pass, etc. to see how you will handle shelf roads with exposure. You can’t move to Calculus 2 until you have passed Calculus 1. If you need recommendations on easier trails to run where you can build your skill level, send me a message and I am happy to help. Accidents on this trail will only push the local authorities and the Forest Service to shut down it down permanently. Do not hurt yourself and PLEASE do not give anyone any more justification to close this trail. Be real with yourself, be honest about your experience level and if you have any doubt whatsoever, just run another trail. Black Bear Pass will be around for a long time (hopefully) and it will wait for you to be ready.
